Scholarship Information

The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc.
Scholarship Fund

The Scholarship program, established in 1982, provides grants for students whose majors are in the field of environmentally related studies, those which would further the aims and interests of The Federation. The student must be a legal resident of Connecticut entering his or her junior, senior, or graduate year at a Connecticut College or University, maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. PhD candidates are not eligible.

We depend on the donations to the Scholarship Fund of our member clubs to enable us to assist students in pursuing their studies. In 2006 we were able to award two $3000 scholarships and hope to do the same or more this year.

Applications must be received by July 1 and are available at all Connecticut Colleges and Universities, through the Federation Office and online on our Federation website. The selection of recipients and the amount of awards will be determined by the Scholarship Committee.

Scholarship recipients are grateful for our financial aid to their ever
mounting educational expenses, so we ask our members to be as generous as possible in support of this program.

Barbara Norrgard
Chair, Scholarship Committee

The National Garden Clubs (NGC) also gives a similar scholarship in which a student must be a legal resident of Connecticut, be studying in the same fields as above, maintain a 3.25 grade point average or better, and have a financial need. But in this case, the student may be studying at a college or university outside the State of Connecticut. NGC will give 34 of these scholarships of $3,500.00 each. Applications are available from The Federation office, the college or university financial aid officer, or from the Scholarship Chairman. These must be returned to the State Chairman by March 1, 2011.
